The First and the Last

T1.Windy.25C

So, the finale has finally arrived. And gone, of course, now that I've watched it.

That's the last of the season. But, it's really not the end, since Fox is going to air the third season of House on Sept 5, so the story continues.

But in this very last episode of the first season, I saw many "first times".

I saw that House was stressed out - even though part of him wanted to just give up and wished that Stacy's husband, Mark, would just die, but he was trying very hard to diagnose Mark. How often do you see House deep in thoughts, working in his office while everyone's already gotten off work? Maybe I have short memories, but that was my first time. And that shocked me.

Well, of course, I didn't think that House would be a cold-blooded character, otherwise the series would be no fun. A person without feelings actually cannot be cynical. House tried to isolate himself from the others so they will not attach to him that much in order to protect himself (obviously Cameron was a failed case. The more he pushed her away, the more she's pulled to him. But that's changed in this episode. It was the first time that Cameron realised and admitted that House knows how to love, but "just doesn't love [her]"). In fact, House seems like an uncanny candidate of Scorpio. He's intelligent, humorous (to a certain extent, he is!), persistent on getting to the final answer, has some sort of sixth sense to identify the illness (otherwise, how can you explain all these last moments realisation, just before the patients die?), becomes jealous (I think it only happens when Stacy is in the scene) and, as Stacy said, he's sexy. He's not the Brad Pitt or Jude Law type of sexy, but he is in some sense.

What's more, he's come out fully about his fears and feelings when talking to Wilson, which was not seen before. What he usually did was - Wilson guessed and teased (and most of the time he's correct), House will try to make a weak attempt to deny or remain silent and Wilson would know whether he guessed it right or not. And for the very first time, House displayed his tenderness, on the balcony. But then again, given the way how the story was told, you have to wonder if Stacy would be the only receiver of such bestowing of tenderness.

Now that Stacy will join the hospital again as the General Counsel in the next season, it'll be a real challenge for him and in turn a fun-filled episode for us.

And for myself, I had my first class of the whole programme tonight. It was a pity that we had to use Statistics as the opening.
