Chopin - Four Mazurkas, Op 6
Barber - Nocturne, Op 33, Homage to John Field
Chopin - Piano Sonata No 2 in B flat minor, Op 35
Barber - Four Excursions, Op 20
Chopin - Nocturne in C sharp minor, Op 27, No 1
Barber - Sonata for Piano, Op 26
Barber...)
Super virtuosic piano experienceLatimer
March 1 - a very special day to remember
On March 1, 1810, Chopin was born.
On March 1, 2010, Mark Latimer celebrates the Romantic composer's 200th birthday with the rarely performed Allegro de Concert.
Protégé of the great John Ogdon, Latimer made his orchestral debut at age 16, performing two Brahms piano concertos. He loves the challenge of mastering the most difficult piano repertoire, giving worldwide exposure to neglected masterpieces and tackling all styles – from classical to jazz and experimental compositions – with panache.
This "British classical music's enfant terrible" (Time Out) will also play Bach's Italian Concerto and Alkan's answer to this Baroque masterpiece – Concerto for Solo Piano. First to record it in a live performance, Latimer will play this most demanding of all piano works in Hong Kong "like a bat out of hell" (The Independent).
3/6 - Cafe de Los Maestros
3/26 - The Pianist
3/27 - Mikhail Rudy Piano Recital
They all sound really great, but I'm especially drawn to The Pianist show. 邊說書邊彈琴的方式 is a novel idea indeed, I wonder if it's an actor just reading passages from Szpilmann's autobiography or maybe more re-enactment of particular scenes are involved? Hope the reading won't distract from the recital.
ReplyDeleteActually, that Argentinian "Buena Vista Social Club" sounds intriguing as well. Gosh, you're so lucky :D Pls let us know how they went afterwards.
ReplyDeletevodka..
snowdrops: it is very new to me as well, but i don't know how it'll turn out. i don't know if i'll have to pay a lot more attention to catch what's being told or read the subtitles (if there's any??). fingers crossed :)
as long as they can keep up the enthusiasm then it should be a very enjoyable evening XD because i (and probably most of the audience) won't be too familiar with the pieces, so if the interpretation/performance is off, i won't know.
don't you guys have even better programmes in europe??
i'll see if i have the energy to write sth up afterwards. hehe..
